Beginning with a small pilot this summer and rolling out more broadly in the fall, the MBTA will introduce mobile applications for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry that can be used to purchase commuter rail tickets and passes. Once tickets are purchased, customers can use the apps to display the tickets on their mobile device.

Last fall, the NJ Transit transportation service became the first public commuter organization using Google Wallet, enabling riders to pay for rail tickets at Newark Airport, Penn Station and on bus lines via the mobile payments app (see story).

Tufts University, in partnership with Edenred Commuter Benefit Solutions, has implemented an online storefront for the purchase of 11% discounted Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) passes. These discounted passes are available to actively matriculated Medford/Somerville/SMFA campuses who are not a Tufts employee and do not receive other benefits from Tufts.

For online payments, we only accept debit or credit cards from Mastercard, Visa, Discover, or American Express. Please note: There is an online service fee of 2.75 percent of the total ticket cost. This fee is paid to the card processor and not kept by the City.

When you buy a Metra mobile ticket with the new Ventra app, it's stored on our servers but will only appear on the device you used to buy it. This makes it easier for people who share an account so people don't mix up whose tickets are whose.

As with all member benefits, the number of discounted tickets you can purchase is determined by the number of Aquarium admissions permitted by your membership level. Discounted tickets may be purchased by telephone or in person at the New England Aquarium Whale Watch booth.

The discount is valid for $2 off one full-priced adult Aquarium admission ticket or $2 off tickets for standard presentations at the Simons Theatre. An Aquarium/movie combo ticket is also available. Commuter Rail Flex Pass: In spring 2022, the MBTA made the 5-day Flex Pass on the Commuter Rail a permanent program in their fare structure. The Flex Pass, available for purchase on the mTicket app, is good for five round trip tickets, does not have to be used on consecutive days and is valid for up to 30 days after purchase. In addition, these are priced 10% cheaper than buying five round trip tickets on separate days.

With the launch of these two online applications, the MBTA said it now accepts online applications for the following free/reduced fare programs: Blind Access, TAP, Senior, and Youth Pass. Riders will still be able to apply in-person at the CharlieCard Store for Senior, Blind Access, and TAP, as they do now (and can make online reservations to visit the CharlieCard Store), and can also visit the MBTA Mobility Center for online application support. The MBTA said riders seeking to apply for a TAP CharlieCard by mail or at the CharlieCard Store can download the updated application at the agency's Transportation Access Pass webpage online.

Each application allows applicants to securely enter their personal information and upload the required documents, such as a photo ID and eligibility documentation. The MBTA added that all online applications are accessible to screen readers and were tested by free/reduced fare riders to ensure usability. Riders who submit their email address as part of their application will receive application status notifications, including details on how to use their card if approved.

The university provides discounted tickets or free passes to the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Science, and the New England Aquarium. You may purchase your tickets online. Purchases may be made by credit or debit card. All tickets must be purchased in advance and are non-refundable. This program is limited to faculty, staff and postdocs. Please allow 2-3 business days to process your request.

How old do I have to be to get into a show?Age minimums vary from show to show. You must present a government-issued ID if you are 21+ and plan on drinking alcohol. Security is present at every show to verify your age. If you are under 18, you may see an 18+ show if your accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The only way we let people in to the show if they are underage is if you have a PARENT or LEGAL GUARDIAN accompany you at all times. No other relatives are allowed and you must be supervised at all times, and both parties must have tickets to the event.

The MBTA introduced changes to its website Monday to make it easier for seniors and other reduced-fare customers to get CharlieCards, the reusable plastic cards for subway and bus rides. The first new feature enables seniors to apply for a Senior CharlieCard completely online; seniors and those eligible for reduced-fare Transportation Access Passes will also be able to make online reservations to visit the CharlieCard Store and avoid waiting in long lines.

This marks the first time the MBTA will let seniors apply for Senior CharlieCards online, including uploading an application, photo and documentation to verify their status. In the past, seniors had to apply in person at the CharlieCard Store or through events hosted by senior centers.

You will be asked for some additional information to purchase reduced fare mobile ticket. Simply enter the Settings section of your mobile ticket, click on Reduced Fare and enter your student/senior/disability identification number. You can then proceed to purchase your ticket using the mobile app, and the reduced fare will automatically appear. Please be sure to carry your reduced fare ID card with you when riding the Commuter Rail to show the conductor upon request. Students tickets are for students in Junior High or High School only.

Mobile tickets have the same expiration dates as paper tickets. All 10 ride tickets will expire after 90 days. Single ride and round trip tickets will also expire after 90 days. Monthly passes are only valid for the month purchased.

Mobile tickets do not need cell phone service to be displayed, however they do need service to be purchased. Therefore you must purchase and activate your ticket before boarding the Commuter Rail train. If you lose cell phone service after boarding the train, you will still be able to display purchased tickets. You will not be able to make any purchases or changes until your cell phone service is restored.

For students who do not need to order an MBTA Semester Pass, you can find information about the CharlieCard, as well as the online MyCharlieAccount option to add value electronically and protect the card in case it is lost or stolen, here on the MBTA website. 041b061a72
